EMPLOYMENT . • 1985-1991 : UNIVERSITY OF MAURITIUS (Lecturer in Computer Science) Since 1989 : Also appointed Head of Computer Centre • June 1991- February 2001: SITRAC Ltd. (General Manager) • 2001- 2003: Director Lifetime Learning Ltd., representing Dale Carnegie Training® in Mauritius • 2002-2016: Director of Advanced Education Academy (AEA) Training Centre, specialized in post-secondary education. • Since November 2003: Director, Lifetime Learning Ltd. representing Leadership Management International® (LMI), a Leadership and business Training Organisation present in more than 60 countries • From 2003 to 2009, I was the In-Country Facilitator for the Interaction Leadership Programme (on a part-time basis) organized by British Council and has been involved in the design and delivery of the programme in Mauritius and also various countries in Africa. • From 2010 to date, I am the facilitator for School Leadership Programme (on a part-time basis) organized by British Council for the Ministry of Education. • 2002 to 2011: Board member of the Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA). EXPERIENCE 1. University of Mauritius Academic (i) Has been the Course Coordinator of the Certificate in Computer Science and Programming and the course coordinator for the Diploma in Computer Science offered by the University of Mauritius. (ii) Has been actively associated with curriculum design in the field of Computer Science at the University of Mauritius, by both introducing new courses in the field and upgrading existing computing component in other courses. In particular, I spearheaded the design of the Diploma in Computer Science that was then offered by the University of Mauritius. (iv) Has been teaching Computer Science at Certificate and Diploma level during the period 1985-1990. Has also been teaching computing components of other diploma/degree courses (e.g Btech Eng, BSc Management Studies, Diploma in Accountancy). (v) Has been preparing and moderating sessional and final examinations internally at the University of Mauritius. (vi) On several occasions, I was a resource person for training programmes in I.T. for Secondary School Teachers, organised by the Mauritius Institute of Education. (vii) I am also a Mentor for Oxford Brookes University, UK for their BSc (Hons.) in Applied Accounting for ACCA Students. Linkages – LANCASTER UNIVERSITY, UK Participated in the development of the link arrangement between the Computer Centre of the University of Mauritius and Lancaster University. I visited in academic year 1989/90 under the link arrangements, funded by the British Council, the Computer Department and the Academic Computing Services of the University of Lancaster, University of Birmingham, and Imperial College of Science and Technology. After these visits, I made some proposals to separate the teaching activities and the computing services of the Computer Centre at the University of Mauritius as well as set the groundings to establish a Campus-wide Computing network at the University of Mauritius. Both proposals were established a few years later with the support of Lancaster University under the link arrangement. Projects (i) Has been supervising students’IT projects both at Certificate and Diploma Level at the University of Mauritius. (ii) Development of a computerised system for the selection of new students for the University of Mauritius. Management (i) I was the first Head of the Computer Centre, and in that capacity I was responsible for the day to day operations of the Centre as well as its development from both the academic aspects as well as the computing services aspects. (ii) I was also a member of the School Board of the Faculty of Engineering and in that capacity I participated in the development and enhancement of a number of Engineering curriculum. 2. Sitrac Ltd. (A state-owned IT Training Company) Management (i) Responsible for an establishment of thirty (30) staff, including twelve (12) trainers, one Business Development Manager, and one Administrative Secretary. In addition to this, the company has around 20 trainers on part-time contract employment. (ii) As Head of that organization I was mainly responsible to organize training programmes in Information Technology and related Management fields for the Civil Service and Parastatal bodies in Mauritius. (iii) Responsible for a state-owned company with a present turnover of around Rs14 Million annually. (iii) Has been the General Manager of that company since its creation. (iv) Has developed a Strategic Plan for the Company for the period 1995-1998 and which has since then been yearly updated. (v) Has introduced a portfolio of services at SITRAC since its creation. (vi) Has been organising a series of high-level workshops and seminars with the collaboration of overseas consultants, since 1993. This has been very successful. (vii) SITRAC has on its enrollment around 350 students, full-time and part-time, following its various long-duration award courses leading to a Bsc and MSc qualifications. Academic (i) Has developped a Certificate in Computer Programming and Applications in 1993 and this has been offered by the company for a few years. (ii) Has established a strategic alliance with NCC Education Services Ltd. of UK to offer a Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BSc and MSc course in IT. This partnership was meant to enhance the quality and diversity of training programmes offered at SITRAC Ltd. And in April 1999, SITRAC Ltd. was rewarded as the “Best New Partner” Award by the NCC Education Services Ltd. at a Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa. Linkages (i) Link arrangements were established with a few IT institutions in Singapore to provide state-of-the-art seminars in Mauritius jointly with SITRAC Ltd. In this way, more than 50 such seminars/workshops have been held in Mauritius. (ii) INSTITUTE OF SYSTEMS SCIENCE (ISS) of the NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE: This was to provide training seminars jointly with SITRAC Ltd. The agreement also covered the training of SITRAC’s trainers to become ISS-Certified trainers. (iii) EDITH COWAN UNIVERSITY of Australia: The purpose was to provide state-of-the-art seminars jointly with Sitrac Ltd. (iv) LONDON GUILDHALL UNIVERSITY: The purpose was to offer the BSc in Computer Information Systems through the NCC Education Services. This University was visited by myself in 1998 (v) KEELE UNIVERSITY: The purpose was to offer the MSc in Business Information Systems through the NCC EDUCATION Services Ltd. This University was visited by myself in 1998. 3. Lifetime Learning Training Centre (2001 to-date) Director of Lifetime Learning Training Centre a company which is engaged in business and soft skills training. • Lifetime Learning Training Centre (From 2001 to 2003) I was representing Dale Carnegie Training a US based business training organization. In that capacity I was trained in New York, USA as a Dale Carnegie Training Instructor/facilitator. This organization is present in more than 80 countries around the world. • Lifetime Learning Training Centre (From 2003 to-date) At Lifetime Learning Training Centre, I represent Leadership Management International Inc. (LMI) which is a US based company engaged in people development (Website: www.lmi-inc.com). I am the Master Licensee for LMI programmes in Mauritius and the African Region. LMI is present in around 60 countries around the world. I have been trained as a facilitator by LMI in USA and I am now a Certified LMI facilitator in all their developmental processes. 4 Advanced Education Academy (2002 to-date) . I joined AEA Training Centre as a non-Executive Director in 2002 and since 2003, I have bought all the shares and I am now the sole owner of AEA Training Centre. At AEA Training Centre I am the Director and since 2003, I have turned around significantly the company to the extent that since 2003, its turn-over is doubling each year. AEA Training Centre has expanded to the extent that it now has around 17 staff working. 5. As Regional Moderator (Part-time) for the National Computing Centre (UK) [1990 to 1995] My duties as Regional Moderator for the NCC Diploma in Computer Studies included the following: (i) Course validation which is a continuing process, and students assessments, at intervals through the course and particularly at the end. (ii) Observation of training sessions (iii) Review of sample courseworks at intervals throughout the course (iv) Ensuring that students have value for money competent tuition (v) Ensuring that the institutions perform up to the agreed NCC standard and level as far as the conduct of the NCC course is concerned. (vi) I was responsible to the NCC (UK) and was reporting regularly : The regional Moderator is the "eyes,ears, and voice of NCC", as put in its course regulation booklets. 6. CONSULTANCY AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES Consulting Work 2003 to 2010: (i) In-Country and Pan African Facilitator for the Interaction leadership Training programme, sponsored by British Council in Sub-Saharan Africa. Duties included: • Participating in design meetings of the training programme • Attending Facilitator Development programmes • Delivery of the training in Mauritius and in various countries in Sib-Saharan Africa (ii) Leadership Facilitator for Dreams & Teams and Connecting Class rooms for British Council. Duties included design and delivery of training workshops in Mauritius, London, UK and Johannesburg, South Africa (iii) 2011-to-date: Facilitator for School Leadership programme for British Council. The duties include mainly the delivery of the training programme developed by British Council to all school leaders of secondary schools in Mauritius. Academic (i) Member of the Board of Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA) as the elected Representative of Registered Private Training Institutions from 2002 to 2011. (iii) I gave a number of talks on Informatics to secondary school students on various occasions, for example at the request of the Youth Guidance Service, Rotaract, etc... (iv) Was appointed the Regional Moderator of the National Computing Centre (NCC) of UK, from 1990 to 1995, for the Diploma in Computer Studies, which was conducted in Mauritius. (v) I was a member of the Training Advisory Committee (TAC) for Information Technology of the Industrial and Vocational Training Board (IVTB) from 1992 to February 2001. (vi) I was the Team Leader for the Working Team on “Standards and Practices” forming part of the second phase of the National Information Technology Plan (NITSP) being conducted by the National Computer Board with the assistance of the National Computer Systems Pte. Ltd. of Singapore in 1997/98. In that capacity, I was also a member of the Management Committee overseeing the development of the NITSP. (vii) From 2004 to 2009, I was the “In-Country - Facilitator (Mauritius)” and occasionally a Pan-African Facilitator for the Interaction Leadership Programme being organized under the British Council of UK for 19 African countries. Since 2010, I am the facilitator for The School Leadership Programme of the British Council. (viii) I was a Board Member of the Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA) since its creation in 2003 to mid- 2011 as Representative of the Registered Private Training Institutions. (ix) I am a Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors (F. MIoD). (x) I am also a newly nominated member of the Distance Education Coordination Committee (DECC) set up by the Tertiary Education Commission since early 2013.
